Compliments

As the Executive Director of the Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte, I was delighted to have Sean Mitchell address our Board of Directors’ annual retreat on the subject of fundraising.  As a non-profit, our existence is dependent on our success in attracting donations, major gifts, and grants.  In 45 minutes, Sean was able to invigorate our board with fresh ideas and enthusiasm about applying his recommendations and insights as we meet with current and potential givers.  Sean’s comments and delivery style are outstanding; he conveyed his message in an easy-to-understand fashion and with a professionalism that spoke to his knowledge and experience in this specialized field.  The Shepherd’s Center is very grateful for the time that Sean spent with us, and I am eager to report back in six months on the financial success that we can attribute to his counseling.

Over 3 years ago, we hired Sean to join us at Myers Park Presbyterian Church and help us rebuild our stewardship ministry—to modernize it, make it impactful, and build deeper connections with members of the congregation.  That is no small task for  a church community with nearly 5,000 members.  But we have done exactly that with Sean’s leadership and guidance.  Some results:  In a two year time period, we grew our operating budget by $500,000, grew the number of families making a yearly pledge, tripled the number of disciples serving in stewardship ministry.  With Sean’s guidance we did all of this while making our way through a capital campaign that will end up with receipts of over 5 times our annual budget.  What’s next?  He is now helping our church community launch a new major initiative where we will be able to support more of Christ’s causes through our giving .  I highly recommend you read what he writes, hear what he speaks, and practice what he encourages!

Sean and his creative ideas were instrumental in guiding Centenary to develop not only our 2015 Stewardship campaign plan but our church’s Strategic Vision for the next 3-5 years. We are in the middle of what I know will be a very successful Stewardship Campaign around our theme: GO: The Kingdom of God is Right at Your Doorstep. Sean’s ideas throughout our campaign have been a blessing in keeping us focused and on task. We are grateful for his leadership.

Sean’s spiritual and technical knowledge came together powerfully in his workshops and consultations.  He has reinvigorated our focus on stewardship.  We’re grateful!”

Sean is truly a gifted presenter!   His easy-going demeanor enables him to be extremely effective with relating to diverse audiences.  Additionally, Sean’s vast experiences in the area of stewardship allow him to not just challenge his listeners to do new things, but encourage them as well.

~ Olanda Carr, Ministry Relations Officer, Presbyterian Foundation, Charlotte, NC

I am grateful for Sean’s leadership.  His process has been encouraging and the Charlotte Presbytery Stewardship Committee now has more energy and engagement in stewardship development than ever before.

~ Rev. Betty L. Meadows, Transitional General Presbyter, Presbytery of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC

Working with Sean Mitchell on the Stewardship Team of the Presbytery of Charlotte has been a privilege. His clear vision, wise counsel, and strong, but gentle, leadership have enabled our team to accomplish more in less time than we ever imagined. Along with his wealth of experience and theological depth, Sean offers strategic help and attention to details.  He teaches as he leads, so in addition to helping us run an excellent stewardship campaign, he creates leaders who can do it on their own next time. Any church (or organization) that wants to rethink stewardship and reclaim the joy of generosity as a  spiritual practice will benefit from Sean’s guidance and coaching.

~ Rev. Jane Summey-Mullennix, 2014-15 Stewardship Committee Co-Chair, Presbytery of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC
